Emmett R Smith and Laurie J Roth have collaborated for over 20 years as artists and educators. From their respective disciplines of theater and dance Smith and Roth have devised theater and developed curricula to create a style that is uniquely situated in the spaces that exist between and among words and movement.
Laurie is a veteran educator with over twenty years experience who works at the Trevor Day School in New York City where she teaches dance composition and is the Director of Performance & Events. A graduate of Purchase College SUNY with a BFA in Dance and New York University with an MA in Integrated Studies (Education and Performance). Influences include Pina Bausch, Anna Halprin and Mel Wong, with whom she danced in The Mel Wong Dance Company. Roth is a certified Yoga instructor, a mother and a gardener.
Emmett graduated from Purchase College SUNY with a BFA with Honors in Theater Arts (Acting) and Bank Street College with an M.S.Ed. Prior to teaching, he was a professional actor. He began at Trevor Day School in 1995 and in addition to teaching drama serves as a high school advisor and director of the high school play. He is an avid reader of poetry and educational theory and among his many interests he loves Shakespeare, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), and cycling. Emmett’s teaching is informed by the work of Lee Strasberg, Patsy Rodenburg, Keith Johnstone, Michael Chekhov, and George Morrison. He has two children, Jude and Xavier.
